Convert JPG to PNG
Re-encode JPG photos as PNG in your browser. The usual reasons: a tool downstream insists on PNG (favicon generators, some print and design pipelines), you're about to edit the image repeatedly and want a lossless master that won't accumulate JPEG artefacts with every save, or you just need a mixed folder normalised to one format. Drop a batch, get one PNG per file — nothing uploads.

How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drop one or more JPG files (WebP, GIF, and BMP also convert).
- Click Convert & download — there are no settings, because PNG is lossless: there's exactly one correct output.
- Each file downloads individually, or grab the whole batch with Download all (.zip).
When PNG output makes sense
- Editing pipeline. PNG is lossless — repeated edit/save cycles don't stack up JPEG artefacts. Convert once, edit the PNG, export to JPG at the very end with PNG to JPG.
- Tools that require PNG. Favicon kits, app-store asset pipelines, some prepress shops.
- Screenshots saved as JPG by mistake. Converting stops further degradation when they get re-saved later (it can't undo what's already lost).
- Format normalisation. Bulk-convert a mixed folder so every file is
.pngbefore scripting against it.
Going the other way — shrinking PNGs into JPGs for the web — is PNG to JPG. For the web in 2026, also consider JPG to WebP: 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality.
FAQ
Will converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?
No — lossy compression is irreversible. The PNG faithfully preserves the JPG's current pixels and stops any further loss, but detail discarded when the JPG was first saved is gone for good.
Will converting to PNG make the background transparent?
No. Converting only changes the container format — every pixel, including the background, stays exactly as it was. JPGs cannot store transparency in the first place, so there is nothing to "restore".
Why is the PNG so much bigger than my JPG?
That's expected. JPG compresses photos lossily and aggressively; PNG is lossless. Photographs typically grow 3–8× when converted. PNG only wins on size for flat graphics, screenshots, and images with few colours.
What happens to EXIF data?
It's stripped — PNG output from this tool carries no JPG-style EXIF (no camera model, no GPS). If you want to see what the original contained, run it through Remove EXIF first; it lists every tag it finds.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using the canvas API. Files never leave your device, and the tool keeps working if you go offline after the page loads.
