Resize JPG Images Online
Resize JPEG photos in your browser — nothing uploads, so a folder of full-resolution phone photos is no problem. Pick how you want to size: longest edge (the best default — works for portrait and landscape mixed together), exact width or height, a fixed width × height canvas, or a percentage. Aspect ratio is preserved in every mode except exact, and the "never enlarge" guard stops small images from being blown up by accident.

How to resize a JPG
- Drop one or more JPG files — a whole batch gets the same rule.
- Pick a mode and size. Longest edge 1920 is the workhorse: every photo fits within 1920px regardless of orientation.
- Set quality — 0.9 keeps resized photos visually clean; drop it if file size matters more.
- Click Resize & download. Output names include the new dimensions (
photo-1920x1280.jpg) so nothing gets confused with originals.
Common resize targets
- Web page / blog body: longest edge 1200–1600px.
- Full-screen hero image: longest edge 1920px (2560px for retina-heavy audiences).
- Email-friendly photos: longest edge 1024px, quality 0.8 — usually well under 500 KB each.
- Instagram: 1080px wide (square 1080×1080, portrait 1080×1350 — crop first with Crop JPG, then resize).
- Thumbnails: longest edge 320–480px.
Resize first, then compress
If the goal is a small file, dimensions beat quality every time: a 4000px-wide photo at quality 0.5 is both bigger and uglier than the same photo at 1600px and quality 0.8. Resize down to the size it will actually be displayed at, then — if you still need to hit a hard KB limit — feed the result to Compress JPG in target mode.
FAQ
How do I resize a JPG without stretching it?
Use any mode except Exact width × height — longest edge, width, height, and percent all preserve the aspect ratio automatically. Exact mode is the only one that can distort, and it's there for the rare cases that genuinely require a fixed canvas.
Will resizing reduce the file size too?
Dramatically, if you're shrinking — file size scales roughly with pixel count, so halving both dimensions cuts the size to about a quarter. The before → after sizes are shown per file. If you need to hit an exact KB number, use Compress JPG's target mode instead.
Can I make a JPG bigger?
You can — untick never enlarge — but upscaling cannot invent detail; the result is a smoother, larger version of the same information. For print, it's usually better to send the original and let the print shop handle scaling.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Resizing happens in your browser using the canvas API. The files never leave your device — there is no server processing images on this site.
What happens to EXIF data when I resize?
It's removed — the canvas re-encode doesn't carry metadata through, and orientation is baked into the pixels instead (so photos won't turn sideways). To check what metadata a photo carries, run it through Remove EXIF first — it lists everything it finds.
